Class 73 In a labelling machine wipers acting on a bottle. placed on a rest are arranged to contact the label over a maximum area during the wiping action and to move clear for the return movement. Arcuate wipers 16 having a resilient lining 17 are carried by a pivoted mounting 15 in arms 8 mounted on a common pivot 9 of a slide movable vertically. Rollers 20 on pins 19 of the arms 8 are held by a spring 28 against either a stationary cam track 21, Fig. 5, or an auxiliary cam track 22, Fig. 1. In operation with a bottle 5 placed on an adjustable support 6, the slide rises from the position shown in Fig. 1, until an actuating member 31 disengages a latch 26 to allow the spring 28 to force in the auxiliary cam tracks 22 until the rollers 20 engage the fixed tracks 21, Fig. 5, the arms 8 moving in so that the wipers engage the bottle and as the slide descends the wipers wipe round the bottle to the position shown in Fig. 5.. Further descent of the slide causes the rollers 20 to enter recesses 30 in extensions 29 of the auxiliary cam tracks 22 thus forcing them apart until the catch 26 re-engages, thus the wipers move clear of the bottle for the return of the slide to the position of Fig. 1, with the rollers 20 engaging the auxiliary cam tracks 22.
