Abstract
710,101. Building motions for spinning &c. frames. STAMMWITZ. E. May 1, 1951 [Sept. 13, 1950], No. 10177/51. Class 120(2) A building motion for spinning and like frames in which a lifter rail is actuated by a reversible gearing controlled by strokereversing mechanism has, connected to the lifter rail, a slide rod displaceable by the gearing and carrying a stop which cooperates with exchangeable stroke-limiting stop members on a spindle connected to an axially displaceable control shaft which actuates the stroke-reversing mechanism. A lifter rail is connected by means including a chain 26 to a rod 11 reciprocated by the engagement of a threaded portion on the rod 11 with an internal thread on a sleeve 10 feathered with a clutch member 9 slidable to engage with clutch elements on worm wheels 7, 8 driven in opposite directions by worms 2, 6. The clutch member 9 is controlled by a slidable control shaft 15 that is rotated at each downward movement by a ratchet and pawl device (not shown), to vary the location of stops 16, 17 guided by a rod 25 and mounted on a threaded sleeve 13 on the shaft 15. Adjustment of the stop 16 alters the length of each single stroke of the lifter rail and the gradual upward movement of the stops 16, 17 by rotation of the shaft 15 results in a cop-type package. Each time a stop 12 on the rod 11 strikes a stop 16, 17, it carries the shaft 15 with it to move the clutch member 9 to alter the direction of movement of the rod 11 and consequently of the lifter rail. The stops 16, 17 employed in the embodiment of Fig. 1, may be replaced by cams 31, 32, Fig. 3, which rotate to alter the stroke allowed to the stop 12 and consequently to the lifter rail. This arrangement is stated to provide a package with a double taper. Cam 16 may be replaced by a flat plate to form packages tapered at the top only. A double-taper, parallel-wound bobbin may be produced by employing stops similar to 16, 17 in Fig. 1, but arranged to move gradually closer together.
