Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXVII] In a gas turbine plant for self-propelled vehicles comprising a useful power turbine driving the vehicle transmission through a reduction gear and a turbine-compressor unit, the turbines are coupled together by a free wheel clutch so that on starting the starting motor drives through the reduction gear both turbine units until on ignition of the combustion gases the compressor turbine overruns the useful power turbine. The turbine compressor unit comprises a centrifugal compressor 10 driven by a turbine of the inward radialflow type through a shaft 11 whilst the useful power turbine is of the outward radial-flow or the axial-flow type and drives a shaft 12. Splined on the shaft 12 is the housing 15 of a uni-directional clutch of the roller ratchet type, the rollers 16 of which engage the shaft 11. The shaft 12 and the housing 15 are journaled in roller bearings 17 mounted in a casing 18 which is bolted to the stator casing 13 of the compressor. The starting motor drives the shaft 12 through the reduction gearing 20. 19 of the main vehicle drive and clutch means. not shown. Additional gearing coupled to the gears 19, 20 may be provided for hand starting purposes.
