Abstract

708,570. Recording sound. DECCA RECORD CO., Ltd. Dec. 12, 1952 [Jan. 4, 1952], No. 382/52. Class 40 (2). In an apparatus for recording sound on disc records the traverse of the recording head is varied in accordance with the intensity of the sound by a velodyne motor. In the embodiments described the sound signals are obtained from a pre-recording which may be on disc, tape or wire. As shown in the Fig. the sound may be taken from a disc machine 13 or a tape or wire machine 21 and passed through an amplifier 15 to a recording head 11 which is made to traverse a recording 10 by means of a lead-screw 12 driven by a velodyne motor 19. A control voltage is obtained from the prerecordings by means of a transducer such as pick-up 16, which is placed slightly in advance of the reproducing head. The control signals are rectified and amplified by units 17, 18 to provide a D.C. voltage to control the speed of the velodyne motor 19 in accordance with the intensity of the sound signals.
