Abstract

<PICT:0707900/III/1> <PICT:0707900/III/2> <PICT:0707900/III/3> A machine for coating workpieces includes a container for the coating material and a nozzle below the container and arranged to be supplied with coating material through an opening in the container, wherein the container and nozzle are so supported in the machine as to be readily detachable therefrom, and in which the nozzle is divided (axially thereof) into two parts, and there being clamping means for holding the two parts of the nozzle normally clamped firmly together and for securing the nozzle to supporting means therefor also below the container. The coating material is contained in a cement pot 58 supported by trunnions 54 resting in slots 52 in the bifurcated portion of an arm 46. Adjustment of a screw 48 bearing against a boss 50 moves the lever about a pin 40 and so raises or lowers the cement pot 58, which has a lid 60 clamped on it through which compressed air is passed from a flexible pipe 84. The cement is forced out of the pot through a short tube 92, whose lower end is conical and seats into a valve member 96, and is secured thereto by a collar 98. Into the lower end of the valve member seats a nozzle 100 retained in place by a collar 102. The nozzle 100 is bored from the top and its lower end is drilled with five holes 106 (see Fig. 4) forming a line along the blunt end of a wedge portion 104. The nozzle is bisected along an axial plane passing through the axes of all the five holes. The two parts are located in their assembled position by a pair of dowel pins 108 in one half engaging holes in the other half, and by a pin 110 engaging a hole in the nozzle seating in the valve member. The valve member 96 is bored transversely fore and aft of the machine to take a conical valve 112, having a hole 114 bored diametrically through it such that the hole may, by rotation of the valve, be aligned with the tube 92 and with the nozzle 100 allowing cement to flow to the nozzle. The valve is connected to a rod 128 in turn connected to a shaft 126, which may be rotated and so rotate the valve 112. A workpiece is supported by an upper serrated, and a lower smooth, feed roll, 8, 10, driven on shafts 14 and 16, and by an idling supporting roll 12, and independently yieldable mounted on a hollow member 20 carrying shaft 16. The workpiece is urged by the feed rolls 8 and 10 against an edge gauge 24. The lower hollow member 20 pivots at a point 22. When a pedal (not shown) is depressed the member 20 is raised so that the lower feed roll 10 grips the workpiece against the upper roll 8. This action also rotates shafts 126 and 128 which rotates valve 112 to allow flow of cement to the nozzle. On a bracket 133 is pivoted a horizontal lever 134 (Fig. 7) on a pin 136, the lever being extended into an end portion 138, and carrying a pin 146 engaging a slot 148 in a member 150. The member 150 encircles, the valve member 96. The lateral position of the nozzle may be adjusted by movement of lever 134, by means of its portion 138, between pins 142 and 154 dropping into pluralities of holes 144 and 156. Lever 134 is normally held against pin 142 by a spring 140. The position of the nozzle is adjusted vertically by means of the screw 48. The cement pot 58, tube 92, valve member 96, and nozzle 100, may be easily dismantled for cleaning when a cement is used which quickly hardens to an insoluble mass.
