707,627. Vehicle bumpers. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Feb. 20, 1952 (Feb. 20, 1951], No. 4517/52. Class 103(2) A bumper of the type surrounding a motor vehicle has a separate girdle section 4 carried by a door of the vehicle, this section being adapted for shielding a longitudinal member 5 of the chassis frame which is located outside of the track width of the vehicle. The section may be made in one piece with the door 3, as shown on the left-hand side of the Figure. or may be made separately as shown on the righthand side, the door for example being cf synthetic material and the section of sheet metal. The lower edge of the end section 4 may be bent to stiffen it, and may serve as a drip edge for removal of rain water. Each section 4 is fitted with a sealing strip 7 which presses tightly against the longitudinal member 5 of the chassis frame when the door is closed. The invention may be applied to vehicles fitted with .doors of any type, e.g. sliding doors, and the sections 4 may be of the same shape in cross-section as that of the remainder of the bumper or may be of different shape.
