Abstract

707,529. Vehicle-wheel rims. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. June 6, 1951 [June 19, 1950], No. 7353/53. Divided out of 707,464. Class 144(2) A tyre-carrying rim comprises an endless annular base 1 with an annular gutter 7 at one edge integral with a reinforcing portion 11, which may be of semi-circular section and return-bent, extending radially inside of the gutter 7 from one side wall 10 of the gutter 7 and abutting the base 1 adjacent, or at the other side wall 9 of the gutter 7. As shown, the rim has a cylindrical well-base portion 4 with a sloping tyre-bead seat portion 5 at one edge and the gutter 7 at the other, the gutter 7 having generally radial walls 9, 10 and an axially extending base 8. The outboard radial wall 10 merges into a return-bent reinforcing portion 11 by a generally axially extending portion, and the terminal edge of the portion 11 abuts the well-base 4 adjacent its junction with the inboard radial wall 9. The gutter 7 receives a T-section split ring 3 which holds a detachable tyre-bead retaining'ring 2 against outward axial displacement. The retaining ring 2 has a hollow return-bent bead-retaining portion 13 and a sloping bead-seat portion 12, the end 14 of portion 13 abutting the seat portion 12 and terminating in a radial flange 15 for engagement by the split ring 3. In an alternative arrangement the reinforcing portion 11 of the gutter 7 may be return-bent sharply from the radial wall 10 to abut the outside thereof. Specification 707,464 is referred to.
