Abstract

707,062. Mining machines. HAARMANN, A. March 9, 1951 [March 10, 1950; June 28, 1950], No. 5695/51. Class 68(1) A mining machine, adapted to be moved parallel to a coal face, comprises a number of endless cutter chains arranged one above the other and each having a forward flight disposed in front of the machine body and extending transversely to the direction of advance during cutting, the cutter chains making a number of cuts extending from one side of the machine to the other and cooperating with each other to move the material freed by the cuts to one side of the machine so as to form a passage therefor. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, upper and lower triangularly shaped jibs 6, 7 carry endless chains directly driven by a shaft 5 and guided at points 8, 9 by chain wheels on vertical shafts 18, 19 carrying sprockets 10, 11 driving endless chains 12, 13 each with two parallel flights. A scraper sheet 14 is disposed between the point 9 and the cutter head 4, a return bottom scraper 15 in the form of a plough share is disposed at the rear of the machine, whilst the portions of the guide rail 3 in advance of the point 9 and adjacent the scraper 15 are formed as ramps. A shield 17 protects a control platform 16 hinged to the machine body 1 and supported by rollers on a conveyer extending along the side of the machine. The chains 12, 13 may serve mainly as strippers and have fewer picks, be driven at a lower speed, and extend forwardly a shorter distance, than the chains 6, 7. Fig. 11 shows the machine fitted with a vertical rotary cutter bar 20 having an extension 21, whilst Fig. 12 shows a single horizontal triangular jib cutter 29 between other horizontal cutter chains 12, 30, 31, and a vertical triangular jib cutter 22. Fig. 16 shows the machine mounted on slide rails 33, 34, pivoted about an axle 35 by a screw-threaded spindle 36, and provided with an endless chain bottom scraper 38, whilst Fig. 20 shows a loading ramp 41 of substantially right-angled triangular box section with a concave upper surface, and an angle iron 42 projecting over the conveyer 37, this ramp being movable about the axle 35 independently of the machine body.
