Class 103(1) [Also in Group XXIV] The wedging surfaces of radially-jamming rollers 6 in a one-way clutch or detent are formed by inclined flats on hard cylindrical bolts 10 which are inserted in reamed axial bores in the inner clutch member 1, with the flats projecting above the cylindrical surface of the member 1, and are angularly adjustable, e.g. to either direction of inclination, by the provision of coned seats tightened by end nuts; or by radial arms keyed to the bolts and locked by clamping bolts on the clutch member 1 passing through arcuate slots in the arms, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or by dowels on the arms engaging holes in the member 1, Figs. 7-10 (not shown). The clutch-rollers 6 are pressed into engagement by springs 7, encircling pins 5 fixed on the-member 1, with or without friction-reducing rollers of light metal, hard wood or synthetic resin, the springs bearing on the clutch-rollers through encircled rollers 8. The springs may be reversed, or paired oppositely-acting springs with a central neutral position, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), may be used. In Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), hollow clutch-rollers have internal axial pins projecting into circumferential grooves in side-plates of the clutch-member 1, and pivotally carrying rollerpressing plungers which slide in spring-pressed cylindrical abutments located in the said grooves. A method of making the inner clutch member comprises inserting cylindrical bolts into the axial bores, turning the assembly, which produces the flats on the bolts, removing the bolts and further turning the member 1, so that when the bolts are again inserted their flats lie above the turned cylindrical surface of the clutch-member 1.
