Abstract

706,190. Cathode-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 12, 1951 [Dec. 14, 1950], No. 30564/50. Class 39(1) [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL(b)] A fine mesh filter is placed in front of the screen of a cathode-ray tube to improve the contrast of the reproduced image in the presence 0 1 external light falling or the screen. In Fig. 1 the filter is formed as a bag of fine net material en veloping the end of the cathode-ray tube. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the net material is supported in a frame in front of the tube screen. The material should appear darker than the screen, a black material being suitable for a white screen, and crimson for a sepia screen. The mesh should have a value not less than the upper limit of resolution for the normal viewing distance, material formed with 70 threads per inch in both directions being suitable. Nylon is a preferred material. Specification 483,841 is referred to.
