Abstract

An artificial fertilizer is prepared by finely dividing organic and inorganic ingredients, blending them together and heating them, and injecting or projecting finely divided preheated sulphur into the heat treated mixture as it falls from the heating vessel. The organic ingredient may be humus, blood, bone or other organic body including fish. Inorganic ingredients may be rock phosphate, superphosphate, calcium carbonate and potassium compounds. Nitrogen may be added as ajonamide ammonium sulphate, or ammoniated liquor. The mixture may be heated to 65 DEG C. or over in a rotary drum, for example, for 10 minutes and discharged therefrom so as to fall into a closed hopper, as the mixture leaves the drum finely divided sulphur preheated by passage through an electrically heated orifice, is projected into the mixture to provide 2-8 per cent sulphur therein.
