Abstract

705,373. Hose couplings. STALLER, K. Dec. 21, 1951 [Sept. 25, 1950], No. 23446/50. Class 99 (1). The internal formation of one or more coupling elements, e.g. rings 3, is adapted to allow easy fitting of the rings onto a hose 1 by simple pushing, screwing or rocking motion, and to resist withdrawal of the rings from the hose when fitted, and clamping means, such as a nut 6, holds the end of the hose in sealing engagement with the end of another hose, pipe or a vessel, Fig. 5. The rings may have annular inwardlydirected wedge-shaped portions as shown; alternatively, each ring has a number of wedgeshaped portions, Fig. 2 (not shown),.and these portions may be interrupted by circumferentially-spaced notches, Fig. 4 (not shown). The nut 6 may have a recess 8 by which the rings are correctly spaced from the end of the hose, Fig. 6 (not shown). In modifications, (a) hoses 1 of different diameters are coupled end-to-end by screwing nuts 6 onto an intermediate sleeve surrounding the end of the larger hose, a sealing washer being disposed between the ends of the hoses, Fig. 7 (not shown), (b) hoses 1 are coupled end-to-end by externally screwed nuts 6 engaging in an intermediate sleeve, Fig. 9 (not shown), (c) the hose 1 is gripped between a conical surface 14 of a branch-piece 5 and a coned ring 15 preceding the rings 3, Fig. 10, (d) tapered metal inserts, with or without a vulcanised rubber coating, press the hose radially outwards between the oppositely directed wedgeshaped portions of a pair of rings 3 on the ends of hoses coupled end-to-end, Fig. 11 (not shown), (e) a split spring ring 18 has retaining points 21 which are pressed into the surface of the hose 1 by the interaction of the ring 18 and one of a pair of rings 3, Fig. 12, (f) thin-walled hoses are provided with a metal reinforcing insert covered by a vulcanised rubber sleeve, or have an ex-' ternal soft rubber stiffening support, Figs. 14 and 15 (not shown), (g) the edges of a helical spring, are pressed into the surface of the hose 1 by a surrounding cap gripped by a cap nut, Fig. 16 (not shown), (h) the helical spring of, the embodiment according to Fig. 16 is replaced by a number of individual split spring rings,. Fig. 18 (not shown), (i) helical springs of opposite pitch and different pitches on a pair of hoses coupled end-to-end serve as screw-threads for a common clamping member, Fig. 19 (not shown), and (k) two hoses 1a, 1b with abutting end faces are clamped together by a tubular part 32 provided with internal threads of opposite or different pitch, Fig. 20.
