704,915. Supporting gramophone pick-ups. COLLARO, Ltd., COLLARO, C., and GIBSON, J. B. Oct. 21, 1952 [Nov. 2, 1951], No. 25716/51. Class 40 (2). In a gramophone pick-up arm, spring counterbalancing means is provided which, by a toggle link mechanism, is adjustable in accordance with the kind of record to be played, namely, standard records or long-playing records. The counterbalancing means takes the form of a coiled tension spring 17 connected between a pin 22 mounted on the arm 10 and a lug 18 on a bracket 12 carrying a pivot 11 about which the arm is movable in a vertical plane. The pin 22, which is movable in a slot 23 in a plate 19 secured to the arm 10 by a screw 20, is mounted on a link 24 which, with a link 25 pivoted at 26 on plate 19, forms a toggle whereby the spring 17 may be tensed, as shown in Fig. 4, for use with long-playing records, or relaxed to the position shown in Fig. 3, for use with standard records. The toggle members are moved to either position by means of a lever 27 which. forms one limb of a bellcrank lever with link 25. The lever 27 may be provided with indication lugs 32, 33 to show which kind of record may be played. The plate 19 is slotted at 21 to permit fine adjustment of its position by means of an adjusting screw 29. Specification 704,895 is referred to.
