Abstract

704,615. Feeding sheets. FABER & SCHLEICHER AKT.-GES. Feb. 1, 1951 [Feb. 6, 1950; Dec. 5, 1950], No. 2520/51. Class 100 (1) Sheet-registering devices.-Sheets B which are fed on to a table 13 in overlapping relationship are each engaged from below, near the front edge, by a number of suction nozzles 9 which rise to engage the sheet, move it beneath fingers or hooks 10, and then carry it into engagement with a number of front stops 14, the fingers 10 being pivotally connected to the means which actuates the nozzles. The nozzles 9 are carried on a member 6 slidable on a guide bar 5 secured to a shaft 4a which is oscillated by an arm 4 and cam 3, a further cam 2, arm 7, and link 8 being arranged to slide the member 6 along the bar 5, whereby the nozzles are moved upwardly, to the left, downwardly, and then to the right. The guide fingers 10 are carried by a member 10a pivoted at 10b to the member 6, an extension of the member 10a having a roller 10c cooperating with a cam-track 12 under the action of a spring 11. Prior to the engagement of the sheet by the nozzles 9, the latter are accelerated to equal the speed of the sheet as it moves over the table. The chain dotted position of the fingers 10 is their position when the roller on the extension 10c engages the lower part of the track 12. Spring-urged fingers may press the sheets into contact with the nozzles 9, or, as shown in Fig. 10, a roller 34, on a bell-crang lever 35 operated by a cam 37, may perform this function. In a modified form, the bell-crank lever may be operated to move the roller 34 towards the nozzles 9 and in the direction of movement of the sheets. The front stops 14 are secured to a tube 15 rotatably mounted on a shaft 16 which has eccentric journals mounted in the ends of levers 17 (not shown) which are eccentrically bored and are journalled in the framework. The position of the levers 17 relative to the frame, and that of the shaft 16 relative to the levers can be adjusted whereby the position of the stops 14 can be adjusted up or down or sideways. The tube 15 is oscillated about the shaft 16 by cam means to swing the stops 14 into operative position.
