704,300. Disc brakes. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. March 12, 1952 [Aug. 23, 1951], No. 6433/52. Class 103(1) A device for providing automatic adjustment for wear in the pads of spot type disc brakes comprises a lever 27 which is pivoted at 28 to the axial stem 22 of a member 16 which is urged axially by the pressure applying means, such as the lever 18, to engage the pads with the disc 2. The lever 27 has 'one end adapted to engage a stop 33 carried by the housing 3 and at the other end carries a pawl 30 which engages ratchet teeth 36 on a ring 17 the bore of which engages the threaded spindle 11 of the friction pad plunger 9. As member 16 is moved forwardly during a brake application, a wire spring 32 tends to turn the lever 27 clockwise so that if there is sufficient movement of the pads due to wear the pawl 30 moves to the next tooth. When the brake pressure is relieved the pawl turns the ring 17 and thus through the screwed spindle 11 resets the pad clearance position.
