Abstract

Class 100 (1) In a web-feeding mechanism, especially for attachment to an addressing machine or other series-printing machine, a roller 14 is driven continuously through a free-wheel 35 to feed a web from a storage reel to a loop at a lower average rate than it is withdrawn by an intermittently rotated roller 25, such that when the loop becomes taut the roller 14 overruns, thus permitting the roller 25 to draw the web directly from the storage reel. As shown, the main driving shaft 9 of an addressing machine drives a shaft 8 of the web-feeding mechanism by a chain 7, the shaft 8 driving the roller 14 through the free-wheel 35 on a shaft 34 driven through stepped pulleys 31 and 33 and a belt 32. The shaft 8 drives a disc 36 carrying an adjustably mounted crank pin coupled by a connecting rod 37 to a toothed sector 38. The sector 38 rotates the shaft 40 of the roller 25 intermittently through a pinion 39 and a roller clutch 41, reverse rotation of the shaft 40 being prevented by a roller clutch 42. The web is cut into sheets while stationary by a reciprocating blade 29 actuated by a cam disc 43 on the shaft 8. The web feeding mechanism may be mounted on a wheeled stand readily detachable from the machine feed.
