Abstract

703,951. Pre-heating furnace charges. KLOCKNER-HURNBOLDT-DUETZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 11, 1951 [Dec. 11, 1950; Dec. 13, 1950; Dec. 21, 1950], No. 28985/51. Class 51 (2) Apparatus for heating cement raw material has a number of cyclone separators 1, 2, 3, 4 connected by conduits 6, 9, 20, 21 so that waste gases from a rotary kiln 5 are drawn through the cylones in succession by means of a centrifugal pump 7 and each cyclone (except that from which the heated material is finally discharged) has a discharge pipe 17, 18, 19 for the powdered material, which opens into the gas entry conduit of the preceding cyclone in an axial direction. Below the delivery end of each discharge pipe, Fig. 2, a funnel 11 is mounted by means of webs 12 and has an opening 13 and a disc 14 is disposed below and supported by webs 15. The material falls through the pipe into the funnel and keeps the space filled to form a gas trap to prevent gases entering the pipe 10, the material flowing through opening 13 over disc 14 to enter the gas current in a uniform distribution. Raw material is supplied through a hopper 16 and pipe 10 into the conduit 9 leading from cyclone 3 to cyclone 4 which latter is preferably formed of two smaller cyclones and the heated powder is discharged from cyclone 1 into the kiln 5 through conduits 22, 23 and via a flap valve 24 weighted by a weight 25 to have a slight closing moment and prevent entrance of kiln gases into pipe 22. Material separated from the gas flow in a final dust separating device 8 passes through a pressure lock and pipe 29 to pipe 23 and to the kiln. Each cyclone discharge pipe contains a screening device 26 to eliminate foreign matter.
