Class 39(1) In an X-ray tube, there are interposed between a helical cathode 1 and anode 4 two intermediate electrodes 2, 3, having slots parallel to the cathode, and forming an electrostatic lens system; their disposition and potentials are such that chromatic aberration is substantially eliminated in a plane normal to the length of the slots, and is large enough in the plane containing the slots to ensure that in the linear image on the anode, the images of the separate cathode turns overlap. Suitable electrode potentials and distances are given and also deduced from theoretical considerations.
