702,829. Coated threads. NORTH BRITISH RAYON, Ltd., MARSDEN. R. J. B., and MARTIN, W. 1. R. April 27. 1951 [May 5, 1950], No. 11172/50. Class 93 A thread is fed into a single bath containing a solution or suspension of or molten coating material, emerges from the surface of the liquid, travels through a forming zone without making contact with any solid material and then traverses a fixing zone in which the coating is stabilized, the speed of travel of the thread through the forming zone being continuously or intermittently at or above the critical speed, i.e. the speed above which droplets of the liquid form on the thread. Referring to the drawing, the thread 1 is introduced without contact at the liquid surface with any solid material into a bath of the liquid 3 where it passes round pulley 5, emerges from the liquid at 6. then enters a tube 7 surrounded with resistance, wire heated from mains 8 through regulator 9 and is led over pulleys 10 and 11 to collecting swift 2. The forming zone is between 6 and 7. The thread may be subjected to vibration either continuously or intermittently, e.g. by means of doctor blades 16 or by mounting the bath on the motor operating the swift. This vibration assists the formation of droplets. Specification 702,828 is referred to.
