Abstract

394,217. Artificial silk. BRITISH BEMBERG, Ltd., Hazel House, Milk Street, London. Oct. 27, 1932, No. 30194. Convention date, March 5. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (i).] In the wet treatment of artificial silk, the filaments are led round a continuous cylindrical surface and advanced in a helical path, and are treated with liquid which is also advanced on the surface of the cylinder in a helical path. As shown in Fig. 1, filaments 7 are passed in helical manner round a rotating cylinder 1, the individual turns being kept in place by means of guides 9, and are treated with liquid which is sprayed tangentially upon the surface of the cylinder through a pipe 5. The liquid flows in a helical path round the cylinder and is collected in an annular trough 6. In a modification the cylinder is mounted in an inclined position and the liquid is allowed to drip or flow from a vertical pipe upon the upper end of the cylindrical surface. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the thread is passed in a number of turns between a pair of cylinders 10, 11 arranged with their axes non-parallel, whereby the thread is advanced in an axial direction. Liquid is supplied to the surface of the lower cylinder through pipes 12, 13 and is caused to travel in a helical path by the action of gravity and of the force exerted upon it by a current of air supplied by pipe 14. As shown in Fig. 6, wipers 17, 18 are arranged upon the lower roller 15 in a slanting position. The wiping edges have openings 19 as shown in Fig. 10. Different liquids are supplied through pipes 20, 21. A wiper 22 prevents mixing of the liquids. As shown in Fig. 11, the cylinders 23, 24 are provided with helical grooves 25. Liquid is fed upon roller 23 by pipes 26, 27, and is advanced in a helical path by means of the grooves 25. Specification 394,216 is referred to.
