Abstract
<PICT:0702682/III/1> In a device for closuring an opening in a wall or side of a treating chamber, e.g. an oven, spray booth or spray chamber, through which opening is depended a transporting member, e.g. a hook to move an article through the chamber, the transporting member being carried and moved longitudinally in the opening by a conveyer outside the chamber, the device comprises flexible members supported by the wall in which the opening is formed, said flexible members extending lengthwise along opposite sides of the opening and towards each other and being pressed into engagement for separation by the passage therebetween of the transporting member, the pressure causing engagement of the flexible members maintaining said engagement thereof before and behind the transporting member during movement between the flexible members. An opening 1 extends lengthwise of the roof 2 of a chamber 3 and through the opening 1 depends a transporting member, shown as a hook 4. The opening is closured by members 5 of flexible material such as cloth, attached to L-shaped supporting pieces 7 secured to the roof 2. The members 5 are pressed into separable engagement by a plurality of plate springs 6 distributed along the length of the members 5, the springs acting to maintain the engagement before and behind the hook 4 as it passes between the members 5. The free portions 8 of the flexible members 5 are armoured with metal wearing pads 9. The hook 4 is preferably made elliptical in section to reduce the gaps between the members 5 near the leading and trailing extremities and may carry a skirt to prevent dripping of oil from the conveyer. The members 5 may be made of resilient material, e.g. rubber to avoid the use of springs, or they may be tubular, and caused to press firmly against one another by the elasticity of their walls or by air or liquid under pressure in the tubes. In a modification the members 5 are mounted to extend downwardly from their attachment to the L-shaped pieces 7.
