702,148. Chlorinated aryloxy compounds. FARBWERKE HOECHST AKT.-GES. VORM. MEISTER, LUCIUS & BRœNING. Oct. 11, 1950 [Oct. 25, 1949], No. 24875/50. Class 2 (3). [Also in Group IV (a)] Aryloxy compounds are obtained by condensing at least one monohydric phenol with at least 'one chlorinated aliphatic alcohol in an alkaline medium, e.g. dichloropropanol is condensed with phenol according to the equation : C 6 H 5 OH +CH 2 Cl-CH(OH).CH 2 Cl= C 6 H 5 -O-CH 2 -CH(OH)-CH 2 Cl + HCl Other reactants specified are isomeric cresols and xylenols, α- and #-naphthols, epichlorhydrin and tertiary dichloroisobutyl alcohol.
