701,836. Treating fabrics. SAMCOE HOLDING CORPORATION. Oct. 19, 1950 [Dec. 10, 1949], No. 25444/52. Divided out of 701,792, [Group IV(c)] Class 42 (1) A propeller for supporting and driving tubular textile fabrics comprises a frame for insertion within the fabric, two sets of endless belts, one set being supported at each end of the frame, and means for driving the belts at one end of the frame at a linear speed exceeding that of the belts at the opposite end. As shown, the flattened tube of fabric 17 passes over rollers 18, 20 and under a roller 19, and then on to the propeller, consisting of frames 21 connected by members 22, the latter being interconnected by exchangeable rods 23. The frames 21 carry rollers 24 and pulleys 25 and 26, around which are trained belts 27. The pulleys 25 are grooved, the groove in the pulley on the left. being of smaller diameter than that in the one on the right. Adjacent pulleys 25 are driven by being engaged, through the fabric, by rollers 32, which are driven from pulley 6 through shaft 7, pulleys 9, 11, 13 and 15, belts 10 and 14, and worm gearing, the belts 27 on the left thus being driven more slowly than those on the right so that ripples appear in the fabric at 28. The fabric may be subjected to steam from chests 36, and air from pipes 37, and is led off, still free from longitudinal tension, between finishing rollers which are driven, through a variable speed pulley 8, from the shaft 7.
