Abstract

701,380. Hair waving appliances. GREIN, P. F. A., and HUGHES, W. D. July 13, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 23060/50. Class 131 A hairwaving humidifier comprises a sheet of rubber, or compressible plastic, preformed into cylindrical shape, with two parallel edges abutting, and having moulded ribs forming recesses wholly or partly over its inner surface. As shown, a rubber sleeve 1 is split longitudinally at 2 and is moulded interiorly with crisscross ribs and recesses 3 to provide reservoirs of suitable reagent for the waving process. The sleeve forms an intermediate layer between a tress of hair wound on a curler and an enclosing heater with or without the interposition of a sachet of plain or treated paper. The rubber sleeve also moulds itself to the shape of the wound tress giving good indirect contact between the heater and the hair. In a modification spaced pips or spikes are formed on the inner surface of the sleeve.
