sprayed material, such as asbestos and other fibrous and similar materials, onto ceilings and other surfaces and objects, for acoustical, insulation and analogous purposes. Such materials, when sprayed onto the surfaces to be coated, present a rather coarse and irregular finish which is highly objectionable from the standpoint of appearance and utility.
It has been recognized in this art that if a Way could be found to finish such coatings in a smooth and uniform texture, the field of application and use of the material would 'be increased many fold. To that end, attempts have been made to provide a more uniform finish by using cork tamping members; it has been found that the same left the surface relatively coarse and bearing tamp marks.
It is the object of this invention to solve the problem above recited by providing means whereby fibrous material sprayed onto surfaces may have imparted thereto a relatively smooth, fine texture or finish. In using the structure of my invention a finish of uniformity and of smooth texture and great beauty is obtained, devoid of tamp and other unwanted markings.
'I'hese and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the coni struction and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly shown in the drawings, illustrating embodiments of my invention, and in which:

In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, I have shown a form of my invention wherein an elongated, cylindrical roller Il made of a resilient material, such as sponge rubber, is mounted on the' tube I0, said roller terminating longitudinally in bevelled, free ends i2 which overhang as at I3 the ends of the tube il). Bearing members I4 are secured Within the ends of ysaid tube, said bearing members being provided with recesses l5 to freely receive the inturned ends I6 of the bar l'i on which the handles i8 are mounted. The bar maybe provided with means, such as protuberances I9 struck-up therefrom, to preclude displacement of the handles on the bar.
In use of the structure of Figs. l and 2 to finish or limpart a ne texture to a surface of sprayed fibrous material, I have found it desirable to apply my texturing device to said surface while thev latter is in a. plastic or semi-plastic state. The
ber masses of the surface are rolled to a fine texture by the resilient roller il; as the longitudinal ends of said roller are rasped down to a thin, freely overhanging edge i2, no lines are left; the objectionable tamp marks left by devices heretofore used for the purpose 'are thus eifectively eliminated and beautiful texture iinishes are obtainedin a fraction of the time and with much less effort than required with finishing methods heretofore used.
The cylindrical roller ii resiliently rolls the surface to a smooth finish of fine texture; the handles I8 make the structure easy to manipulate and use, cutting down the time required to finish jobs.
The structure shown in the drawings is one of many possible variations of the invention; the invention comprehends, broadly, the provision of a texturing device having a resilient member to be brought into contact with the surface to be l lfinished, the marginal or free edges of said resiiient member being rasped down to a. thin edge to assure freedom from objectionable markings, the device being provided with handle means. Variations embodying the features set forth above and coming within the scope of the appended' claims shall be deemed to be within the purview of the invention and covered thereby.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A texturing device for finishing surfaces of sprayed brous material, said device comprising a tube, an elongated cylindrical roller of resilient material mounted on said tube and enclosing the said tube, said roller terminating longitudinally in beveled, free ends overhanging the ends of the tube, bearings in said tube, a bar provided with inturned ends freely received in said bearings, and handles on said bar for facility of manipulation thereof.
2. A texturing device for finishing surfaces of ayed fibrous material, said device comprising abe, an elongated cylindrical roller of resilznaterial mounted on said tube and enclosthe said tube, said roller terminating longitudinally in beveled, free ends overhanging the ends of the tube, bearings in said tube, a bar provided with inturned ends freely received in said bearings, and a pair of handles on the inturned ends of bar for facility of manipulation thereof and means on said bar to preclude displacement of said handles.
3. A texturing device for finishing surfaces of sprayed brous materials, which comprises an elongated cylindrical body and bearing members for the body adjacent the ends thereof, the said body terminating longitudinally in beveled free ends projecting beyond and overhanging the bearing members, the said beveled free ends defining a thin edge at each end of the said tubular body for assuring freedom from objectionable markings on the surfaces being finished.
4. A texturing device for finishing surfaces of 5 cylindrical tubular body, mounting means for the said body, and a cylindrical roller of resilient material, mounted on the tubular body and enclosing the tubular body and terminating longi tudinally in beveled, free ends overhanging the sprayed brous material, which comprises a ld ends of the tubular body.

A texturing device for nishing surfaces of sprayed brous material, which comprises an elongated tubular reinforcing body and a roller mounted upon and enclosing the reinforcing body, the said roller being composed of resilient material and terminating longitudinally in beveled, free ends overhanging the ends of the reinforcing body.
6. A texturing device for finishing surfaces of sprayed brous material, which comprises an elongated tubular reinforcing body, bearings in the said body, a continuous bar interconnecting the bearings and having inturned ends freely received in the said bearings, the said bar comprising mounting means for the bearings and tubular body, handles on the said bar for facility of manipulation of the tubular body, and a resilient tubular roller mounted on the tubular body and enclosing the said tubular body, the resilient roller terminating longitudinally in beveled, free' ends overhanging the ends of the tubular body 35 2,368,513

A texturing device for nnishing surfaces of sprayed brous material,- which comprises a cylindrical tubular supporting body, bearing means in the said body and a cylindrical roller M of resilient material mounted on and enveloping the tubular body and terminating longitudinally in beveled free ends overhanging the ends of the tubularbody, the beveled ends sloping angularly from the periphery of the cylindrical roller to the central surface thereof to assure freedom from objectionable ymarkings on the sprayed surface, and handle means secured to the device for facility 'of manipulation thereof.
