Abstract

701,304. Electric heating pads or blankets. GRISLEY, F. Jan. 24, 1952 [May 7, 1951], No. 10717/51. Class 39 (3) An electrically heated pad (Fig. 1) comprises two superimposed layers 1 of thermo plastic material such as P.V.C. or polyethelene between which layers a heating element 2 of wire or tape in plain form or helically spun on a flexible core is interposed. Bar welds 4 join the layers 1 together and maintain the element in position. The welds may be at right angles to the element strands Fig. 2 (not shown) or both longitudinal and transverse welds may be used together. Alternatively, the whole of the mating surfaces may be welded together. The insulating covering of the supply cable 3 may be welded to the layers 1. A modified construction (Fig. 4) includes padding 6, e.g. of glass, cotton or slag wool. The pad may have a series of perforations for ventilation purposes and may be enclosed in a cover, e.g. of textile materials. Thermostats or like thermal control devices may be included between the layers 1.
