668,163. Flexible electric heating ele-- ments. GOLDSTAUB, H. H. March 18, 1949 [Feb. 18, 1948; Feb. 27, 1948], Nos. 4790/48 and 6155/48. Class 39(iii) A flexible electric heating element comprises a knitted ribbon or band a of resistance wire fabricated so that it is extensible in length and in width, the ribbon or band a having on each side a border b of insulating fabric. The borders b may also be extensible in length and in width. The resistance wire and the borders may be fabricated into a heating element simultaneously and the element may be provided on one or both faces with a heat insulating fabric that is extensible in length and in width. The insulating fabric may be glass fibre or any other suitable material knitted or woven to give elasticity. The heating element may be used in blankets, garments, bed warmers, flask heaters, condensation and fractionation apparatus and for pipe heating. The second Provisional Specification also describes a heating element comprising a length of elastic insulating tape or hose, preferably of knitted or woven glass fibres, in. or on which is formed, mounted or otherwise secured a flexible elastic heating element, for instance wire in coiled form, heat losses being prevented by heat insulating material mounted on the element.
