Abstract

700,206. Reinforced concrete beams. LONDON WELDING CO., Ltd., and FOWLER, R. J. Sept. 8, 1952 [June 29, 1951], No. 15516/51. Class 20 (4) Reinforced main structural members e.g. pillars, rafters, purlins &c. are attached one to another by means of attachment portions which are welded to the body of the reinforcement of the pillar &c., before the reinforcement is placed in a mould. A rafter 1 has four longitudinal reinforcing bars 2 held together by a stirrup 3, a pair of studs 4 being welded to the upper two bars 2 at spaced intervals for the attachment of purlins 5. The purlins are attached to the rafter 1 by means of sleeves 9 which are welded to reinforcement bars 6, 7 at each end of the purlins 5 and are adapted to slide over the studs 4. A washer plate 11 is placed over each pair of studs 4 and the assembly is held in position by nuts 10. Fig. 3 shows a connection between a beam 25 and a pillar 20. U-shaped brackets 23 are welded to reinforcement bars 21 in the pillar 20 and tubular sockets 24 are welded within brackets 23 to receive bolts 29 which pass through angle brackets 28 welded to the ends of reinforcement bars 26 in the beam 25. The bolts are secured in position by nuts 30. The angle brackets may be replaced by a single bracket which is welded across the end of the beam, the use of the brackets, as shown, however, permits the use of a mortar filling 31. Fig. 5 shows the footing of a pillar 30 having reinforcing bars 31 to which is welded a plate 32. The pillar is recessed at 33 so that the upper side of the plate is accessible for securing the pillar by a bolt 35 and a nut 34.
