Abstract

700,125. Duplicating machines. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. July 13, 1951 [April 14, 1951], No. 16699/51. Class 100 (2) In a rotary duplicating machine of the kind using a mirror script master sheet having a number (or the like) printing or counting mechanism arranged in the printing drum, the printing drum is rotatable by a single stroke clutch, means being provided for inserting a release member at will into the path of the coupling member of the clutch to release the clutch in order to bring the drum to rest in a position in which the number printing or counting mechanism is accessible for adjustment or reading, this position being different from the normal position of rest of the drum which is required at the beginning of each printing operation. The printing drum 1 is driven from a constantly driven ratchet wheel 20 by a pawl 5 pivotally carried by the drum. The number printing or counting mechanism 9 is arranged in a recess in the drum adjacent the clamping means 8 for the end of the master sheet. A lever 21 normally trips the pawl 5 so that the drum stops with the number printing or counting mechanism in position "A" which is the position required for the insertion of a sheet for printing. In this position the drum is prevented from turning backwards by a lever 6a engageable with a stop 7. When it is desired to adjust or inspect the number printing or counting mechanism or to adjust or replace the master sheet, the lever 4 is manually turned to the position shown in Fig. 1 to displace the link 3 to the right and turn the lever 2 into engagement with the pawl 5. By this means the drum is stopped with the number printing or counting mechanism in the top position (shown at B). A lever 6 is also rotated by the link 3 into engagement with the stop 7 to prevent backward rotation of the drum. To facilitate reading of the number printing or counting mechanism an image thereof is thrown by a magnifying glass 10 on to a mirror 11 extending the length of the drum, light being provided by a bulb 15. The lens and bulb are displaceable along the length of the drum on a carriage 17 travelling on parallel rods 18, 19. The current for the bulb 15 is supplied through these rods A switch 12 controlling the bulb is closed when the lever 4 is actuated to stop the roller and opened when the lever 4 is turned in the direction of arrow C to release the drum to turn to the printing position.
