In a method of rendering water-repellant textile materials e.g. cellulose fibres, which are sensitive to halogen hydrides by using organosilicon halides, the moisture content of the material is first reduced to less than 3 per cent. and preferably to about 1 per cent. e.g. by drying at an elevated temperature which at atmospheric pressure may be 100‹C. and at reduced pressure may rise to 110 to 120‹C. and/or by placing the material in a chamber conditioned accordingly.
