699,109. Cooling systems for internal-combustion engines. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 3, 1951 [Jan. 14, 1950], No. 230/51. Class 64 (iii) [Also in Group XXIX] A thermostat, mounted in the outlet from the engine jacket of an internalcombustion engine cooling system, and comprising a bellows 27 ,Fig. 2, and a valve 29 interconnected by a stem 28 having a guide 30, has flat spring means, e.g., a leaf spring 32, Fig. 3, carried by the guide and pressing on the stem, for damping vibrations in the bellows. The guide, carried on a bellowssupporting stirrup 26, is cut to form three fillets 31 which embrace the stem, and the spring riveted to the guide at 33, has a hole 34 cut in it to avoid the middle fillet and allow the spring to press on the stem at each side of the fillet. In a modification, a narrower spring presses on the stem between the two outer fillets. In further modifications one or two fillets are severed at one end to act as springs.
