Abstract
698,691. Mixing appliances. AGHNIDES, E. P. Nov. 29, 1950 [Nov. 29, 1949], No. 29280/50. Class 14 (i). [Also in Group 11] A device for producing a coherent jet of liquid containing gas bubbles comprises a chamber connectable to the discharge end of a tube con- 'taining liquid under pressure, an orifice upstream of the chamber through which orifice a stream of liquid flows into the chamber with substantial velocity, a, gas port opening into the chamber for the entry of gas, induced by the liquid stream or supplied under pressure, finely perforated means in the path of the liquid stream after it leaves the orifice for finely breaking up the liquid, mixing it with the gas and uniting the aerated liquid into a coherent jet and adjustable means for.varying the total resistance of the device to the liquid and gas passing therethrough. The Specification describes a number of alternative constructions, as for example, the embodiment of Fig. 1 in which a chamber 100 is attached to a faucet 101 and in which liquid passes through a hole 102 and air enters through holes 106, a screen 108 being provided in a screw cap part 105 for finely breaking up, mixing and uniting the stream, the hole 102 containing a conical body 103 resting on the screen 108 so that it can be displaced vertically to vary the effective cross sectional area of the hole 102 by rotating the screw cap 105. The cross sectional area of the hole 102 is a minimum when the cap 105 is screwed to its uppermost position and in this case the liquid leaves the device as a divergent stream of droplets. As the cap is screwed downwards the liquid becomes aerated with progressively finer particles of gas until in the lowermost position when the cross sectional area of the hole 102 is a maximum no air is entrained and plain water emerges from the device. In other constructions the means for varying the total resistance of the device has a plurality of holes each having displaceable conical bodies, or comprises a pair of perforated discs one of which is rotatably or axially adjustable with'respect to the other. The resistance varying means is arranged in some constructions so that in one of its adjusted positions, the liquid stream is directed in the form of a spray like an ordinary shower from a portion of the outlet of the device not provided with the finely perforated means. Specification 625,084 is referred to.
