Abstract

696,904. Crystal detectors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 3, 1951 [Aug. 18, 1950; Feb. 16, 1951], Nos. 20529/50 and 3822/51. -Class 37. A crystal valve has a wall portion of its enclosure formed as a bellshaped member 3 of vitreous material, e.g. clear glass, sealed to one lead 4 and the enclosure completed by a thermoplastic synthetic insulating resin 5 moulded into contact with another lead 6, and the bell-shaped member 3. The resin may be flowed around a cup 8 mounting the crystal and the glass member 3, Fig. 1, while the electrodes are held in a jig for adjustment of the contacts or, Fig. 3, into the interior of the glass member 3 as far as a disc 9 of varnished paper or the like held above the cup 8. The rim of the bell-shaped glass member 3 may curve inwardly or outwardly and may be formed with one or more indentations or holes to retain more securely the plastic member. The lead 6 may have a transverse kink or extension 7 embedded in the plastic material to increase adhesion as described in Specification 696,896,
