Abstract

696,822. Moulding pneumatic tyres. KIMES CORPORATION, H. E. Aug. 14, 1950 [Aug. 27, 1949], No. 20147/50. Class 87 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] Metallic inserts 19 to be embedded within the tread 8 of a pneumatic tyre are secured by clips 17 to linings 11 mounted within an annular treadforming mould A. The inserts (see Specification 663,347, [Group XXXIV]) may be in the form of separate lengths of bronze or steel wire or of a continuous coiled length. In the latter case, the points of juncture between adjacent inserts is weakened so that they become separated upon use of the tyre casing. The retaining clips 17 engage holes in the linings 11, the linings being mounted on the inside of the mould by screws 12. In a modification where separate inserts are used, their ends are passed through holes in the linings 11.
