Abstract

996,385. Pneumatic tyres. AVON RUBBER CO. Ltd. Oct. 12, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 39584/60. Heading B7C. To provide for uniform expansion and cord spacing on shaping of a flat band radial cord carcase d to tyre shape, Fig. 4, the carcase is built up on a band of rubber a which is wholly or partially pre-vulcanized sufficiently to avoid localized thinning on expansion, the band being laid around the building drum b prior to application of the carcase plies d. The band a may have a thickness of between 0À015 to 0À050 inch, a tensile modulus of between 500 to 1500 lb. p.s.i. at 300% elongation, and a circumference of 2 to 5% less than that of the drum a. The band may be of a width to extend at least across the crown region, or preferably from bead to bead, and may comprise a number of parallel contiguous bands.
