In a machine for graining lithographic plates, of the kind in which a table carrying the plate is caused to perform circular movements while a number of graining balls rest on the plate, the plate is carried by a table 1 which is connected by a flexible metal connection to a fabricated sub-frame resting on ball-bearings 2 running in recesses in the machine frame 3, so that the table may be tipped about the flexible connection to allow the graining balls to run into a container 6. A hydraulic gear 5 is provided for tipping the table. The table has a flat upper surface 11 with stiffeners 12 secured underneath. At one end of each stiffener a vertical strip 16 is provided, and the two outer stiffeners have horizontal strips 17 provided thereon. The sub-frame consists of longitudinal members 18, 19 and transverse members 20, under which is secured a member 20a which is acted upon by cranks 4 for driving the table. The strips 16 are secured to strips 30 on the sub-frame by spring steel plates 26. Further spring-steel plates 21, 22 are secured at one side to the subframe member 18 and at the other to the horizontal strips 17 on the table. The spring-steel strip may consist of two or more laminations. Guides may be provided at the end of the frame remote from the steel strips.
