Abstract
696,720. Load engaging means. STORA KOPPARBERGS BERGSLAGS AKTIEBOLAG. July 17, 1951. No. 16926/51. Class 78 (iv). A lifting device for transporting bundles of rods comprises at least two parallel spaced apart substantially vertical members 30, to the lower ends of which load supporting members 34 are pivoted, these members being swung into load supporting position by the movement of triangular crank members 28 and rods 44 caused by the upward movement of a horizontal member 68 disposed between the vertical members. The a,ppliance is protected by a casing 12 having means on its exterior for connection to one end of a horizontal beam 14 provided with eyes 16 for crane hooks. A horizontal spindle 10 supported by the casing 12 passes through slots 24 in a pair of vertical side pieces 20 upstanding from a base 18. These side pieces have ears 22 formed with slots 38 to receive pins 36 mounted in the members 30 which are pivoted at.26 in the plates 20. The pins 36 engage also in slots 40 in triangular crank members 28 which are connected at one corner by a pivot 26 to the plates 20 and at the other corners by pivots 42, 52 to rods 44 and links 54 respectively. The rods 44 are connected by links 50 to the pivots 32 of the load supports 34 and the upper pivots 46 of these links are arranged to engage the hooked ends 48 of the supports. The links 54 are connected to the spindle 10 and the right hand pivot 52 carries a pawl 56, the hooked end of which can engage the left hand pivot. The pawl has a projection 58, Fig. 2, which co-operates with an operating stop 72 pivoted at 76 to an operating member 60. This member has a slot 66 to receive the spindle 10 and supports the horizontal member 68. The device is shown in Fig. 1 with the parts disposed in readiness to engage a load. In this position the upper end of the slot 66 rests on the spindle 10, the end of the pawl 56 engages the left hand pivot 52 and the projection 58 rests on the nose 74 of the stop 72. When the device is lowered on to a load, as soon as the member 68 rests on the load, relative movement occurs between the parts since the stop 72 engages the projection 58 and raises it to free the links 54, which thereupon swing outwardly as the side plates 20, etc. move downwards with respect to the casing 12. The triangular cranks 28 swing outwards to depress the rods 44 and swing the load supports 34 to the position shown in Fig. 3.
