A posser comprises an inner bell 7 acted on by a spring 8 and movable in and out of an outer bell 1, the inner bell in the inoperative position of the posser being urged against a limiting stop 5 on the outer bell, the inner bell being attached to the outer bell solely by the spring and disposed when inoperative with the major portion of its height projecting outside the outer bell, both bells being relatively so dimensioned that the inner bell can be pressed against the spring substantially completely within the inner bell. The limiting stop consists of a ring, of U-shape in cross section, fixed to the base of the bell 1 and serving also to limit lateral movement of the inner bell 7. The outer flange and base of the ring 5 are perforated as shown at 19. The inner bell 7 is of truncated conical shape and has an intermediate perforated plate 10 which is made intergal with the skirt 11 of the bell. The cover 12 of the inner bell is rivetted to the plate 10 and has a central opening 14 and a flange 16 which engages the top of the inner flange of ring 5. In use the posser is pressed against clothing to be washed and so forces the inner bell 7 into the bell 1. When the posser is raised air and washing liquid is sucked into the bell 1 to be ejected through the perforations in the plate 10 and ring 5 when the posser is pressed against the clothing once more.
