Abstract
695,833. Optical projection apparatus. SOC. GENEVOISE D'INSTRUMENTS DE. PHYSIQUE. July 6, 1951 [July 7, 1950], No.. 16070/51. Class 97 (i). A projection device for examining time-piece, jewels has a horizontal carrier on which the. jewel is supported by one of its end faces in a. bath of liquid of approximately the same refractive index through which the optical axis, is passed horizontally, reflecting surfaces being provided outside the bath at both entry and exit of the light beam, the optical axis being vertical beyond these surfaces. One form of optical system is shown in Fig. 1. A beam of light from a lamp 11 is projected by condensers: 12 and 14 and a reflector 13 into rhomboidalprism 19 from which it enters a prism 20 which directs it through the walls 18a, 18b of a cell containing the specimen P on a support 17. A prism 21 directs the emergent light beam through an objective 5a which is one of a number on a turret with axis 6. The imageforming light beam is directed rearwardly by a mirror and then forwardly again on to the rear of a projection screen which has clips for supporting reference drawings. The prisms 20, 21 are supported on members 22 carried on balls and adjustable by knobs 24. Scales may be provided. By these adjustments the light beam through the jewel may be adjusted to be inclined to the horizontal to secure better illumination. The jewel support 17 is shown on a larger scale in Fig. 7. The jewel rests on the upper surface 33, the support having at 32 a bevel which is tapered so that the edge 30 is inclined to the wall 18b.
