Abstract

695,081. Electric incandescent lamps. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI, R. T. Oct. 19, 1951 [April 26, 1951], No. 24448/51. Class 39(ii) Electric incandescent lamps are provided with an internal coloured coating comprising at least one inorganic colouring substance capable of acting as a getter, the inorganic colouring substance being in the form of granules the size of which is of the order of 0.1 to 10 microns. Preferable examples of such substances are:-titanium white. iron oxide black, cadmium selenide and the like. More. than one colouring substance may be employed, at least one of which acts also as a getter material, a preferable example comprising silicic acid together with a colouring material acting as a getter. In an example the colouring material ground to granules, preferably of about 0.3-3 microns in size, is mixed with collodion, or a synthetic resin. or collodion and one or more synthetic resins such as a polyvinyl or silicone resin in a solvent. Thus, titanium white is ground to granules of 2-2.5 microns and dispersed in collodion dissolved in butyl acetate. The dispersion is poured into a lamp bulb and, spread over the inner surface, e.g. by shaking the bulb or stirring the liquid to produce a uniform coating. After pouring out the excess liquid the bulb is heated to a temperature of about 150-160‹C to evaporate the butyl acetate, and finally heated to about 450‹C to decompose and burn the collodion. In a further example cadmium selenide is used as the colouring matter and getter material, and a mixture of collodion and a silicone resin as a binding agent. After heating the I coating to remove the solvent it is heated to 480‹C to convert the main part of the silicone resin to silica. In a further embodiment of the invention the binding agent consists only of silicone resin dissolved, for example, in toluene. One or more additional getters, e.g. phosphorus or the like, may be arranged in known manner inside the bulb. Krypton or xenon, or a mixture of those two gases, may be used as the filling gas.
