Abstract
694,553. Heat-storing apparatus. TELKES, M. Feb. 12, 1952 [Feb. 19, 1951], No. 3673/52. Class 64 (ii) A material for the storage of heat, e.g. solar heat or waste heat extracted during refrigeration, consists by weight of 1-5 per cent borax, the balance being sodium sulphate and water of which the sodium sulphate is 34-44 per cent on an anhydrous basis by weight. The balance may be Glauber's salt. The borax prevents its supercooling and the formation of heptahydrate of sodium sulphate during crystallization and inhibits corrosion of the container, although sodium chromate or dichromate (0.5 per cent) also may be added for this last purpose. The material is used in sealed, steel containers 11 stacked in tiers in a bin B, the tops 11 a of the containers in a tier being in heat transfer contact with the bottoms 11b of the containers in the tier above. Small spaces 13 are provided for the circulation of air or other heattransfer fluid between the containers in each tier.
