Abstract

The invention comprises 3 : 4-dihydro 1 : 3-benzoxazines substituted in the 3 (N) position by aliphatic hydrocarbon radicles which may carry a OH group, in the 6-position by halogen or saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, and in the 5, 7 or 8 positions by hydrogen, halogen or saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, obtainable by interacting p-substituted phenols with formaldehyde and aliphatic primary amines in the molecular ratio of 1 : 2 : 1. At least one of the substituents must be a radicle of at least 8 C atoms. The intermediately obtainable o-alkylaminomethyl - p - substituted phenol, or N : N-dimethylolamine may be isolated, if desired. In examples 2 : 4 di-t-octyl-phenol and p-t-octylphenol are condensed with paraformaldehyde and methylamine, p-cresol with paraformaldehyde and octadecylamine, p-tert. octylphenol with paraformaldehyde and monoethanolamine, or n-propylamine, 3 : 4-dimethylphenol with paraformaldehyde and dodecylamine. Other phenols specified include p-dodecylphenol, and 2 : 4-dichlorphenol.
