Abstract

694,239. Carpenters' joints. COLEMAN, C. E., and WOLFE, W. A. S. S. DE. June 11, 1951 [March 13, 1950], No. 6270/50. Class 20(ii) [Also in Group XXIII] A device for fixing a wooden part such as a broom handle into a correspondingly shaped socket in a second wooden part comprises an arched metal base 1 provided with a pair of upwardly extending arms 3, outwardly extending piercing elements 2 being provided on the periphery of the base and inwardly extending piercing elements 4 on the arms 3. The base 1 before being arched is of the same diameter as the socket. The arms 3 are transversely curved and prior to use the upper portions are inclined outwardly. The device is introduced into the socket and a broom handle is driven down on to the base 1 forcing the spikes 2 into the wall of the socket and the spikes 4 into the handle.
