Abstract
694,222. Expanding pulley gearing. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. July 10, 1951, No. 16311/51. Class 80 (ii). In a multiple expanding V-belt spring pulley, two groups of frusto-conical flanges 12, 14, 16 and 13, 15, 17 are rigidly connected together by arcuate fingers 31, 35 and 30, 34 through which are passed tie-bolts 40, 41, the fingers being integral with their respective pulley flanges 14, 16 and 13, 15. The fingers interengage with each other and pass through slots such as 32, 33 in the pulley flanges. Axially directed keys 4, 5, fast in a rotatable sleeve power transmitting member 1, are engaged by the fingers, the arrangement being such that the two groups of pulley-flanges 12, 14, 16 and 13, 15, 17 are axially slidable but non-rotatable with respect to each other and with respect to the rotatable sleeve. Spiral compression springs 47, 48 between the flanges urge them together and are received in recesses such as 46, each of these recesses being equal in depth to at least half the minimum length of the springs. The pulley is centred for axial movement on the sleeve 1 by stops consisting of the ends of the keys 4, 5 engaged by the flanges 12, 17 and by screws 7, 8. In one modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), each spiral spring 47, 48, is replaced by a plurality of helical springs. In further modifications, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), springs are alternatively or additionally mounted around arcuate fingers extending beyond the end pulley flanges 12, 17.
