Abstract
694,185. Spray-producers. KOPPERSCHMIDT, W. Aug. 29, 1950 [Sept. 1, 1949], No. 21353/50. Class 69(iii) Paint, or molten thermoplastic material, or the like, is fed through a hose 17 to a chamber 2 of a spray gun, to which is screwed a nozzle 6 with a circular or slot-shaped outlet controlled by a needle valve 3, normally forced by a compression spring 13 into outlet sealing position. The valve has integral collars 8 which engage cams 11 on a shaft 10, Fig. 2, and, by rotating the shaft by a trigger 12, the needle is moved rearwardly and the nozzle outlet opened. A hood 28 surrounds the nozzle, and is heated electrically, or by pipes 45. Additional pipes 29, with perforations directed towards the spray or the surface to be coated, are supplied with hot gases, or alternatively, gases which are burnt at the outlets. A screen 31, which may be heated by hot oil or gases, or by electricity, assists the atomization and may be adjusted relatively to the spray jet. The spray medium is kept hot by hot oil, or gases &c. in a jacket 20, said oil &c. being fed to passages 19, 22 adjacent the chamber 2, and then led from a chamber 23 to a jacket 44 surrounding a hose 43 returning unsprayed medium to its source. Alternatively, the chamber 2 is kept hot by electrical means. The width of the nozzle outlet, when slot-shaped, maybe regulated by screws and wedges.
