Abstract

694,017. Automatic frequency control systems. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 27, 1951 [Nov. 30, 1950], No. 27778/51. Class 38 (iv). [Also in Group XL (c)] In a receiver handling two signals forming the lower and upper side-bands of a common carrier of frequency f, and in which each signal channel circuit comprises two frequency changing mixers separated by a single side-band filter, a common local oscillator feeds the channel mixers connected to the low-frequency end of the circuit and the local oscillations fed to the other mixers differ in frequency by double the frequency of the common oscillator, while the single side-band filters are identical. The receiving aerial feeds mixer 26 provided with oscillations of frequency f-1000 kc/s. from source 25 and the resultant band 996 to 1004 kc/s. is passed by filter 27 to the two identical channel circuits 22, 22<SP>1</SP>. The first mixers 28, 28<SP>1</SP> are supplied with oscillations of 940 and 1060 kc/s. respectively from source 35 and mixer 36, the latter also using the second harmonic of the 60 kc/s. source 31. The filters 30, 30<SP>1</SP> both pass the band 60.2 to 64 kc/s. to the mixers 29, 29<SP>1</SP> supplied with 60 kc/s. oscillations from common source 31 and the 0.2 to 4 kc/s. signal bands from the mixers, selected by filters 32, 32<SP>1</SP>, reproduce the two signals which are fed to the reproducers 34, 34<SP>1</SP>, respectively. The frequency of the 940 kc/s. source 35 is controlled by a thermionic reactance 41, to which is applied the output of the phase detector mixer 39, which compares the 60 kc/s. ,frequencies from source 31 and that present at the output of mixer 28<SP>1</SP> due to the presence in the received signal of a pilot oscillation of frequency f. The locally produced 940 and 1060 kc/s. oscillations may both be produced from the mixer 36 by applying thereto the output from a 1000 kc/s. oscillator and the 60 kc/s. oscillations.
