Abstract
693,495. Filters; filtering media. C. A. V., Ltd. April 17, 1951 [May 8. 1950]. No. 11351/50. Class 46 A filter is made from an obliquely corrugated, rippled or like paper sheet which is folded in opposite directions along a plurality of longitudinal parallel lines or comprises an equivalent assembly of separate sheets united at alternate edges, the folded sheet, or sheet assembly, being coiled to spiral form so that when mounted in an enclosure liquid flowing into the adjacent open ends of one group of spiral channels passes through the walls of the channels and flows out through the opposite open ends of the other group of channels. Fig. 3 shows a portion of such a sheet after folding along two longitudinal and parallel lines. The folded sheet b is subsequently coiled and accommodated in a container c, Fig. 6, having a closed top d, a bottom e with opening m, and a central tube f with opening n. Liquid entering a cylindrical bowl g, Fig. 7, from an inlet h enters the filter b at m and after filtration issues from the top of the filter b and passes through the opening n to the outlet i. The paper from which the filter is made may be strengthened by a porous coating of or impregnation of a synthetic resin. Alternatively crepe paper, Fig. 5, may be used.
