Abstract

692,955. Tape dispensers. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 27, 1950 [Feb. 4, 1950], No. 31375/50. Class 18. Pressure sensitive adhesive tape is delivered from a dispenser by an endless belt 30 mounted on pulleys 25, 27, a spring loaded pulley 31 pressing the tape into adhesive contact with the belt. The outer surface of the belt is longitudinally divided so that as the belt passes round the outer pulley 27 the segments of the belt are spread apart thereby releasing themselves from contact with the tape which continues out through an aperture 21 in the casing of the dispenser. A cutter 19 may be positioned near the aperture for severing the tape and a spring plate 22 may serve to clear the tape from the cutter after a. length has been severed. The belt may comprise a continuous spiral spring and the pulley 31 may be shaped to conform the tape to the circular shape of the belt, curving of the tape in this manner adding rigidity to it and further facilitating the separation between the tape and belt when the belt commences to pass round the pulley 27. Alternatively the belt may be made from flexible material the outer surface of which is longitudinally divided. The outer surface of the belt may be convex or recessed, and the pulley 31 may be correspondingly shaped to conform the tape to the shape of the pulley. A finger operated lever 36 having a chain driving a sprocket connected to the pulley 27 serves for advancing the tape.
