Abstract
692,761. Screwdrivers; wrenches. CHAIN BELT CO. Oct. 16, 1951 [April 12, 1951], No. 24145/51. Class 61 (iii). [Also in Group XXVI] The impeller 29 (Fig. 2) of a centrifugal pump is screwed on to the end of the driving shaft 33, and is formed in its outer face with a transverse slot adapted to receive, as a screwdriver, a lug 66 formed integrally with the detachable side cover of the impeller chamber. In a modification in which the impeller is secured to the shaft by means of a key 88 (Fig. 6), means provided for freeing the impeller, e.g. if frozen, comprise a pair of diametrically opposed slots 91 in the impeller hub, and a pair of lugs 92 formed integrally with and projecting outwards from the centre of the impeller chamber cover 82, the lugs being spaced to straddle the shaft and engage in the slots. In a further modification the slots in the impeller are dispensed with, and the cover is formed integrally adjacent its edge with an axially projecting lug containing a socket adapted to fit over the end of the shaft and a notch adapted to engage the key at opposite sides.
