692,675. Photometric apparatus. CANDY FILTER CO., Ltd., and AITKEN, R. W. March 10, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 17904/51. Class 97 (i). [Also in Group XL (b)] Photo-electric apparatus for measuring the opacity of a fluid includes means for continuously cleaning the windows of the chamber containing the fluid. A rectangular block mounted on a plate 3 of a bracket 1 contains two mutually perpendicular holes 5, 6, the one hole 5 containing a worm 10 which is driven by a motor 7 suspended from an overhanging bracket 8, and the other hole 6 containing a shaft 17 with a central worm-wheel 18 engaging with worm 10. A circular transparent disc 20 is assembled on each end of shaft 17. Fixed to the end of block 4 is an open-sided rectangular frame 23 containing a cell 26, and test liquid is passed through a transverse bore 27 in the cell 26, the end faces of the cell being parallel to the discs 20, and maintained fluid-tight against the discs by flexible jointing rings 28. Fluid connection to the inside of the cell 26 is obtained via connector members 29, 30. A U-shaped frame 41 is bolted to frame 23, and carries a photo-cell 42 on one side, a lamp 43 on the other, and a Bowden-controlled shutter arrangement 50 preferably with an adjustable aperture and a light filter. The rotation of the discs 20 by the motor 7 causes the flexible jointing-rings 28 to rub off any deposits or stains on the discs.
